The Gamecocks had won back-to-back College World Series; now in 2012, they were gunning for a historic third consecutive win. Ace Michael Roth & Closer Matt Price returned, but most of the other players were freshmen.
Roth's masterful, classic pitching performance in Columbia during the NCAA Super Regional opened a berth for the Gamecocks' return to Omaha, forcing the opposing coach to remark on Roth's work that night, "That was ' poetic justice.'"
